Private-equity-backed distributor EMS has acquired AMD Supply, extending its reach across construction products and marking its eighth acquisition under Wynnchurch Capital ownership.

Florida-based AMD distributes aluminum and vinyl fencing, hurricane shutters, extrusions, motors, hardware and related building products across the Southeast, Caribbean and Latin America.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

The transaction is adjacent to HVAC rather than a pure-play HVAC deal, but the pattern should look familiar to mechanical distributors.

Wynnchurch acquired EMS in 2019.

Since then, the platform has repeatedly used add-on acquisitions to increase geographic reach, product categories and customer density.

EMS now operates more than 20 distribution and manufacturing facilities totaling nearly 2 million square feet.

That is almost exactly the playbook being used across HVAC, plumbing and electrical distribution.

Acquire a strong regional platform.

Add smaller businesses around it.

Increase purchasing power, logistics density and product breadth.

Then use the larger network to serve more of the contractor's material spend.

For HVAC distributors and private-equity investors, the relevance is strategic rather than product-specific.

Distribution consolidation continues to reward platforms capable of repeatedly integrating regional add-ons rather than relying entirely on organic branch expansion.
