TruTemp Services has acquired two HVAC businesses simultaneously, expanding its residential field-services platform across North Carolina.

The company acquired D&D HVAC and Sandhills Heating & Refrigeration, adding operations serving markets including Sanford and Aberdeen.

TruTemp is backed by Centre Partners and Baldwin Creek Partners.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Density Is the Strategy

TruTemp already operates around Raleigh, Apex and Durham following its earlier acquisition of Maynor Service Company.

Adding the two businesses creates a more connected regional service footprint.

That is a key difference between random acquisition activity and a true roll-up.

A buyer that owns multiple companies in neighboring markets can potentially share:

technicians,

call-center capacity,

marketing,

management,

inventory,

and purchasing.

Why Local Density Matters

Home services remain highly local.

A national platform may own dozens of brands, but the actual economics of a contractor still depend heavily on drive time and technician utilization.

Acquiring businesses close together can make the combined operation more efficient than simply buying isolated contractors around the country.

The Takeaway

Private equity is still buying HVAC contractors.

But the strategy is becoming more deliberate.

The next phase of consolidation may be less about collecting logos and more about owning dense regional service territories.
