AI data centers are continuing to pull enormous amounts of money into the infrastructure required to keep them operating.
nVent Electric announced that it has agreed to acquire Texas-based Maverick Power for $1.75 billion, expanding its position in electrical power distribution and infrastructure for the rapidly growing data-center market.
The acquisition is not a traditional HVAC deal.
But for mechanical contractors and HVAC manufacturers, it is another strong indication of just how much infrastructure is being built around AI.
Power and Cooling Are Growing Together
Maverick manufactures power-distribution equipment used in large facilities, including hyperscale data centers.
That matters because every increase in electrical density creates an almost corresponding increase in cooling demand.
The servers consuming that electricity eventually turn most of it into heat.
As a result, the companies building out power distribution and the companies supplying chillers, air handlers, pumps and liquid-cooling systems are increasingly serving the same projects.
The Deal Is Larger Than the Initial Price
The transaction values Maverick at $1.75 billion, with the possibility of up to another $550 million in cash if performance targets are reached in 2027 and 2028.
That potential earnout shows how aggressively companies are valuing businesses tied to AI infrastructure.
Data Centers Are Reshaping Building Infrastructure
The important story for HVAC is not simply that an electrical company was acquired.
It is that companies across mechanical, electrical and thermal infrastructure are all being pulled toward the same market.
Data centers increasingly require:

- Redundant electrical systems

- Backup generation
That is creating an infrastructure ecosystem where HVAC and electrical systems are becoming harder to separate.
