Navien has expanded its residential hydronic lineup with a new high efficiency combi boiler.
The NCB700 combines space heating and domestic hot water in one wall hung unit and carries a 96% AFUE rating.
The system provides up to 150,000 Btuh of space heating input and up to 210,000 Btuh for domestic hot water.
Hot Water Flow Reaches 5.4 GPM
Navien says the NCB700 can deliver domestic hot water flow rates of up to 5.4 gallons per minute at a 70°F temperature rise.
That allows one appliance to replace both:
a conventional boiler
and
a separate water heater
in suitable residential applications.
Space Is Part of the Appeal
Wall hung combi systems can be particularly attractive where mechanical room space is limited.
Instead of installing two separate appliances, contractors can potentially consolidate the system into one compact unit.
That can be useful in:
townhouses,
apartments,
retrofits,
and smaller mechanical rooms.
High Efficiency Hydronics Remain Relevant
Heat pumps dominate much of the current residential heating conversation.
But hydronic heating remains important across the Northeast and other colder markets.
High efficiency condensing boilers continue to provide an option for homes with:
radiators,
baseboard,
radiant floors,
and domestic hot water demand.
The Takeaway
Not every residential heating upgrade is becoming a heat pump.
Navien's new 96% AFUE combi boiler shows manufacturers are still investing heavily in compact high efficiency gas hydronics too.
For contractors, the residential heating market is increasingly about having several technology options rather than one universal solution.
