Air Temperature Is Only Part of Comfort

Human comfort depends on multiple factors.

Temperature.

Humidity.

Air velocity.

Radiant heat.

Clothing.

Activity level.

That means two spaces at exactly the same dry-bulb temperature can feel very different depending on air movement.

Fans increase convective and evaporative heat loss from the body.

They do not necessarily reduce the room's actual air temperature.

But they can change how that temperature feels to the occupant.

Industrial Buildings Are Difficult to Condition

Large factories and warehouses present a difficult HVAC problem.

Cooling the entire building volume can require enormous amounts of energy.

Air movement also does not solve every indoor-air-quality issue.
