Refrigerant charging is one of the most routine HVAC procedures.
It is also still being done incorrectly.
An ACCA technical article published September 8 says undercharging and overcharging remain common field issues, despite the enormous effect refrigerant charge can have on system performance.

Line-set requirements.
System configuration.
Charging cannot be separated from the rest of commissioning.
A2Ls Raise the Stakes
The industry is simultaneously moving toward new A2L refrigerants across large parts of the equipment market.
That makes technician discipline even more important.
Different equipment generations may now sit inside the same contractor's service area, potentially using R-22, R-410A, R-32, R-454B and other refrigerants.
Guessing becomes increasingly risky.
Callbacks Are the Business Cost
An improperly charged system does not only waste energy.
It can create:
Repeat visits.
Customer complaints.
Warranty problems.
Technician time.

A few extra minutes of proper commissioning can therefore protect much more than system efficiency.
