Private equity is moving deeper into the technical side of commercial HVAC.

Harvest Partners has acquired Integra Testing Services, a national provider of commercial HVAC testing, adjusting and balancing services, as well as controlled-environment testing and certification. Integra serves a wide range of end markets and provides TAB and controlled-environment services.

For commercial HVAC contractors, this deal matters because it highlights a part of the market that is becoming more valuable: verification.

As buildings become more complex, owners need proof that systems are performing as designed. That includes airflow, pressurization, cleanroom certification, laboratory environments, healthcare spaces, data centers, industrial facilities, and other controlled environments where performance matters.

Testing, adjusting, and balancing is not glamorous, but it is essential. A system can be installed correctly on paper and still underperform if airflow, hydronics, controls, or pressure relationships are wrong.

Private equity interest in this category shows that mission-critical HVAC services are becoming more attractive. These businesses often serve customers that need recurring testing, compliance support, documentation, and specialized expertise.

For contractors, the message is clear: technical verification is moving up the value chain.

Mechanical contractors that understand TAB, commissioning, cleanroom requirements, controlled environments, and compliance-driven service may be better positioned as owners demand more performance documentation.

The contractor takeaway is that the market is rewarding specialized HVAC capability, not just installation volume. As buildings get more complex, the companies that can prove performance may become more valuable than those that simply install equipment.
