Generac's residential business is growing again.

The manufacturer reported record third quarter sales of $1.29 billion, up 16% from $1.11 billion a year earlier. Generac's official Q3 results

Residential segment sales increased approximately 9% to $744 million.

The increase was primarily driven by stronger home standby and portable generator shipments.

Residential Profitability Improved Too

Residential adjusted EBITDA reached $200.8 million, representing a margin of 27.0%.

A year earlier, residential EBITDA was $160.2 million with a 23.4% margin.

Generac credited:

higher shipment volumes,

favorable price and cost effects,

and lower spending on some energy technology initiatives.

Why HVAC Contractors Should Care

More HVAC and electrical contractors are moving into generators.

The logic is straightforward.

A contractor already entering the homeowner's property for:

HVAC,

electrical panels,

heat pumps,

or whole home comfort

can potentially sell backup power too.

The increasing overlap between HVAC and electrical work makes Generac's residential performance relevant beyond the generator industry.

Record Demand Across the Company

Generac also reported strong commercial growth, helping total net income rise to $109 million from $66 million a year earlier.

The company generated $171 million in operating cash flow during the quarter.

The Takeaway

Generac's results reinforce a broader home services trend.

Homeowners increasingly buy HVAC, electrical, backup power and energy products from overlapping contractor networks.

Residential generator growth may therefore create another attractive cross sell opportunity for multi trade contractors.
