Boldr is giving HVAC technicians and contractor businesses another reason to attach smart controls to every ductless mini-split job.
Boldr has launched a Boldr Pro Rewards Program, offering cash payments to technicians and contractor businesses that install their Smart Controllers for ductless mini-splits.
Individual technicians can earn a $200 one-time reward, while contractor businesses can earn $1,000. Rewards are paid directly through Venmo, PayPal, Visa, or Mastercard gift cards.
For Boldr, the program is designed to make the Smart Controller an easy add-on to every ductless installation, while giving technicians and contractors a direct financial incentive to put the product in front of customers.
Turning the Mini-Split Remote Into a Thermostat
The Boldr Smart Controller is designed to upgrade one of the most outdated parts of the ductless HVAC experience: the handheld infrared remote. It replaces the standard plastic controller with a true smart-thermostat experience for ductless AC systems, giving homeowners a sleek wall or dock-mounted control instead of another remote that can be misplaced.
The device uses a mirror-glass interface, touch controls and an aluminum enclosure, giving ductless systems a user experience closer to the smart thermostats customers are accustomed to seeing on central HVAC systems.
But the bigger selling point for contractors is what happens behind the display.
Boldr is compatible across all brands of ductless mini-splits, so contractors do not need a different controller for every manufacturer. It also doesn’t require wiring into the HVAC equipment, avoiding the extra labor, cost and risk that come with opening up and modifying the system.
Installation can typically be completed in under five minutes, making it an easy add-on to a ductless job rather than a separate controls project.
Once installed, the controller gives homeowners access to scheduling, energy monitoring and automation, while also creating an ongoing digital connection between the contractor and the equipment.
The Contractor's Brand Stays in the Home
Boldr is also using the controller itself as a customer-retention tool.
Contractors using the free Boldr Pro Platform can display their own logo and contact information on every controller they install. The Pro Platform also gives contractors access to live equipment alerts designed to help identify potential service needs, reduce unnecessary callouts and keep the contractor connected to the system after the installation is complete.
For technicians, there is an immediate day-to-day benefit too. A cleaner, more intuitive control means fewer callbacks about lost remotes or how to use the original IR controller, a faster handoff at the end of the job, and a more polished finish that customers are likely to notice.
The idea is that the ductless installation does not end when the technician leaves. Instead, the contractor keeps a visible presence on the equipment and a digital connection to the system that can support future service and maintenance revenue.
How the Rewards Program Works
Technicians receive a $200 one-time cash reward after installing five qualifying Boldr Smart Controllers within 30 days of creating a Boldr Pro account. The payment goes directly to the technician.
Contractor businesses can earn a $1,000 one-time reward after completing 20 qualifying installations within 45 days of creating a Boldr Pro business account. That payment goes directly to the company.
And the rewards stack. If a contractor business reaches 20 qualifying installs and four of its technicians each complete five qualifying installs, the business earns its $1,000 reward and each technician still receives their own $200 reward on top of that.
That means one 20-install milestone could generate $1,800 in total rewards across the business and its technicians.
Contractor Takeaway
The rewards are designed to get technicians to try the product. The bigger strategy is to make smart controls a standard part of a ductless sale.
For a contractor already installing mini-splits, the Smart Controller is a five-minute add-on that gives the customer a more familiar thermostat experience, keeps the contractor's brand inside the home and can create another connection to future service revenue.
And for contractors willing to make it part of enough jobs, Boldr is now paying them to get started.
